There were 739 homicides in 2022 across Los Angeles County, according to data that law enforcement agencies report to the state of California.

In 2019, the data show that number was 508. In 2010, it was 617.

The risk is not the same in every community.

ABC7’s data team looked at the data that every local police agency reported to the California Department of Justice each year through 2022, the latest date for which records are available. The vast majority of law enforcement agencies in the county do not make public more recent records.

The totals here include murders, but not involuntary manslaughter or justifiable homicide.

The map color codes each community by the rate of incidents per 100,000 residents in 2022. Click the box in the bottom right corner to color-code communities by the number of crimes instead of the rate.

Use the search box at the top of the map to find for any street, place, landmark or zip code and zoom to that location. The map shows data for every community across Southern California.

Click inside any area to see detailed figures for the last several years or search the table below the map to view and compare data by area over more than a decade.
