The totals include only aggravated batteries, which the city police define as someone being seriously injured by another person, whether or not they used a firearm or other weapon.
The danger is not the same neighborhood to neighborhood. ABC7’s data team looked at the Chicago Police Department’s data by neighborhood from 2019 through September 11, 2025.
The map color codes each neighborhood by the aggravated battery rate over the last 12 months. The three darker blues represent neighborhoods with battery rates that are higher than the citywide rate.
